Recreation Ale by Terrapin Beer Company at The Mt. Washington Tavern

BREW NEWS: Recreation Ale by Terrapin Beer Company

Posted on

After the winter we’ve had, how about a beer that will remind you why you love to get outside? We’re now serving Terrapin Beer Company’s Recreation Ale! A brew with lime, ginger and heavy on floral hops.

Terrapin Beer Company was born when two brewers met while working together at a microbrewery in Atlanta. Looking around at what other breweries in the southeast were doing, Spike and John felt they could make a contribution. Realizing that anyone could make just another pale ale, brown ale or stout, Spike and John set their sights on crafting beers unlike any that were currently available in the southeast.

Terrapin introduced its first beer, the Rye Pale Ale in April of 2002. Six months later while only available on draft in Athens, Terrapin’s sole offering won the American Pale Ale Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival.

Brew News: Yard's Brewing Company Brawler Ale now at Mt. Washington Tavern!

BREW NEWS: Brawler Ale

Posted on

Yards Brewing Company suggests you pair their Brawler Ale with slow-cooked BBQ or spicy dish. We think it pairs amazingly with our tenderloin sandwich.

An approachable ales, Brawler is malt forward and delicately hopped for a knockout flavor. Its smooth character, hints of caramel and toast, and remarkable drinkability define this ruby colored brew as a true session ale.

According to Yards, it’s the perfect beverage for when you want to go more than a few rounds.

The Philadelphia-based brewery roots their craft beers in British-inspired ales. While it might make for a nice story had they come from a long line of brewers, the truth is, they come from a long line of beer drinkers.

Like many college students, Yards co-founders Tom Kehoe and Jon Bovit enjoyed beer but didn’t enjoy paying for it. So they decided to take action and began brewing it themselves. As they homebrewed their way through Western Maryland College, they experimented with malt, hops, and yeast, formulating new recipes and sharing their creations with friends.

According to their website, It wasn’t long before they had more friends than beer.

We get that.

Brew News: Barking Squirrel at Mt. Washington Tavern

BREW NEWS: Barking Squirrel Lager from Hop City Brewing Company

Posted on

At Mt. Washington Tavern, we love great brews AND having fun at work. Probably why we can’t get enough of Hop City Brewing Company and their founders Kevin and John!

This spring, we’re serving up Hop City’s Barking Squirrel Lager. Barking Squirrel is a 5% ABV amber lager with a distinct rich burnt orange color and subtle noble hop aroma. Its medium body, pleasant hop bitterness and caramel malt sweetness makes it smooth and drinkable with a slight hop aftertaste.

Here’s a sneak peek at how they craft with attitude:

The first Barking Squirrel may have been brewed in John’s kitchen — but you don’t need to travel to Canada to try it. Swing by the Tavern for a pint of this craft beer with a friendly bark. It will be a new favorite.
